
Dr. Lang is computer science professor at the Centre for Applied Informatics, University of Cologne, Germany, and head of the Computing Centre at the University of Cologne. He was previously deputy director of the HLRS, a national high performance computing centre for the academic community in Germany , where he also headed the Applications and Visualization department. He directs the software research and developments activities at the Centre. His research activities are in the field of virtual and augmented environments and human computer interaction. The centre operates a virtual reality laboratory. He also leads the COVISE development, a collaborative visualization and simulation environment with a desktop and virtual reality user interface, which is marketed by the spin-off company Vircinity. He is a program committee member of high performance computing, visualization and virtual reality conferences. Ulrich Lang is a board member of VDC Fellbach, a competence centre for virtual reality and collaborative working established by the Stuttgart region. Its task is to promote the usage of virtual reality and collaborative working and to initiate and co-ordinate industrial projects.
